Our Purpose
Greenline Hawaiʻi is a community-based initiative working to facilitate the return of Hawaiian land to Hawaiian people through down payment grants.
Greenline Hawai'i is a collective of individuals, families, businesses, and organizations that are partnered together because we believe we can heal and transform the legacy of colonization in Hawaii. We invite you to join us in this vital work.
Native Hawaiians have endured a history of colonization and the dispossession of ancestral land. The loss of land has had a significant negative impact on the health and well-being of Native Hawaiian people and culture. Lack of affordable housing in Hawai'i disproportionately affects Native Hawaiians, triggering displacement, separation from the land, and migration away from Hawai'i. Loss of land has led to an inability to practice subsistence living and traditional cultural practices. The displacement of Hawaiians from Hawaiian ancestral land continues to be a concern, threatening the strength and survival of Hawaiian culture and identity, as well as the land itself. We want to do everything in our power to help Native Hawaiian people live and thrive on their ancestral land - now and for future generations. We donʻt need to wait for our local, state, and federal governments. Together we can heal and restore through returning Hawaiian land to Hawaiian people. To do this, we invite individuals, families, businesses, and organizations to collectively fund down payment grants for Native Hawaiians. |
Our First Endeavor
Greenline Hawai'i is currently raising funds to be used as a down payment for the Kanui ʻohana - Makaiwa, Maikaʻi, and their two sons - on Hawai'i island (the Big Island). This is where they were both born and raised, and where they now serve as cultural practitioners, community organizers, artists, musicians, gatherers, ministers, parents, and beloved members of their greater 'ohana community.
Our goal is to raise $300,000 for a down payment for the Kanuis. |
